The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province and banned outdoor drone flying for 30 days.
According to a department spokesperson, the provincial government introduced the restriction due to security concerns and public safety requirements.
The ban aims to maintain law and order while protecting public and private property across Punjab. The Punjab Home Secretary imposed the restriction under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
Indoor Drone Use Allowed Under Conditions
However, the restriction does not cover small drones used inside halls and marquees during indoor events.
Event organisers will remain responsible for ensuring that drones are operated safely and according to the applicable rules. They will also have to prevent any misuse of the devices within their premises.
Meanwhile, intelligence agencies and law enforcement institutions have been exempted from the restriction while performing official duties.
The Home Department said district administrations and police authorities across Punjab had received directions to enforce the orders strictly.
NOC Required For Outdoor Drone Flights
The department said protecting public safety and maintaining law and order remained the government’s primary objectives behind the decision.
A committee has also been formed with authority to grant permissions for outdoor drone operations. Anyone seeking to fly a drone in an open area will therefore need to obtain a no-objection certificate from the committee.
The new restrictions will remain in place for 30 days unless the authorities make further changes. District administrations and police officials will oversee compliance with the directive.
The government’s decision comes as authorities continue strengthening security measures and regulating activities that could create risks in public spaces.
