The Punjab government will provide rice farmers a rental subsidy of up to Rs. 25,000 for super seeders. The initiative operates under the Punjab Clean Air Program and aims to promote cleaner rice cultivation.
Under the scheme, eligible farmers will receive Rs. 5,000 per acre. However, the government has capped the total subsidy at Rs. 25,000 for each farmer.
Scheme Targets Crop Residue Burning
The program encourages farmers to use super seeders when sowing their rice crops. Authorities aim to reduce crop residue burning, which contributes significantly to air pollution and smog across Punjab.
Farmers who use super seeders for rice cultivation can apply for the financial support. The scheme will cover farmers across 23 districts in the province.
The eligible districts include Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Chiniot, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad. Wazirabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib also fall under the scheme.
Farmers Can Apply Through Online Portal
The government has also included Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Pakpattan and Multan among eligible districts. Furthermore, farmers in Lodhran, Khanewal, Vehari and Bahawalnagar can also receive the subsidy.
Farmers can register online through the official website of the Agriculture Department Punjab. They must meet the scheme’s eligibility requirements and use a super seeder for rice cultivation.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts to address Punjab’s recurring air pollution problem. By encouraging alternative farming methods, authorities hope to reduce residue burning and improve air quality.
Officials expect the subsidy to encourage more farmers to adopt modern sowing techniques. The program could also support cleaner agricultural practices while helping farmers manage cultivation costs.
