The Punjab Higher Education Department has approved electric buses for 25 government colleges during the current financial year.
According to the Directorate of Public Instruction Colleges, several institutions are struggling to manage rising fuel expenses within their existing budgets.
The department decided to provide electric buses to address the issue and improve transportation facilities for students and staff. The initiative also supports the government’s environment-friendly policies and aims to reduce recurring fuel costs.
Electric Buses To Reduce College Expenses
The new buses are expected to help colleges lower their transportation expenses significantly. Director Public Instruction Colleges Dr Syed Ansar Azhar said the electric buses could help institutions save millions of rupees annually.
The move is also expected to provide colleges with a more sustainable transportation option. By reducing dependence on conventional fuel, the initiative could lower operating costs while supporting cleaner transport.
According to officials, the department approved the provision after several colleges reported difficulties in meeting fuel expenses from their allocated budgets.
35 Colleges Received Buses Last Year
The latest allocation follows a similar initiative launched last year. At that time, the Punjab government provided buses to 35 government colleges across the province.
The latest decision will extend the transportation support to another 25 institutions during the ongoing financial year. Colleges receiving the buses are expected to benefit from lower fuel and operational costs.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts to improve facilities at government educational institutions while promoting environmentally friendly transportation.
Officials said the electric buses would provide a practical solution to transportation challenges while helping colleges manage their budgets more effectively.
