PDMA Issues Alert Until August 5
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab has warned of urban flooding, flash floods and landslides across the province.
The fourth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 5. Authorities have advised residents to remain alert and follow official safety instructions.
PDMA said water levels in most Punjab rivers have returned to normal. Flows at all Chenab River barrages and Ravi River headworks are currently within safe limits.
Water levels in the Jhelum and Sutlej rivers also remain normal.
Indus River Records Low-Level Flooding
Low-level flooding has been reported in the Indus River at Kalabagh. The inflow has reached 331,000 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 323,000 cusecs.
The Indus River is flowing normally at Tarbela, Chashma and Taunsa. Hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan also remain under control.
However, low-level flooding has been recorded in Nala Aik and Baein. Nala Palkhu near Wazirabad is experiencing medium-level flooding.
PDMA Punjab Director General Saif Anwar Jappa said rainfall in upper catchment areas could raise water levels in eastern rivers.
Connected streams and seasonal waterways may also experience sudden flash floods.
Lahore, Rawalpindi and Other Cities at Risk
PDMA has warned of possible urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan.
Murree, Galyat and other mountainous areas could face landslides due to continuous rainfall and unstable ground conditions.
People living inside riverbeds have been directed to immediately move to safer locations.
The Punjab government has established flood relief camps in affected areas. Essential facilities and medicines will be provided at these centres.
Residents have been advised to avoid rivers, canals, streams and seasonal waterways. Recreational visits to flooded areas should also be avoided.
Parents have been urged to closely supervise children and prevent them from swimming in rivers, canals or streams.
