Punjab Traffic Police has introduced special measures to facilitate students applying under the provincial government’s 100,000 electric bike scheme. The initiative aims to simplify the driving licence process for eligible applicants.
Punjab DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir directed all licensing centres to provide maximum assistance to students participating in the scheme. According to a traffic police spokesperson, CTOs and DTOs have been instructed to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
Under the new arrangements, students can obtain both a motorcycle learner’s licence and a regular driving licence on the same day. Additionally, applicants will not have to observe the usual 42-day waiting period after receiving a learner’s licence.
New Measures Aim to Support Students
Authorities said a valid driving licence remains mandatory for students seeking to benefit from the e-bike scheme. Therefore, the latest facility is expected to help applicants complete licensing requirements more quickly.
The traffic police believe the streamlined process will encourage greater participation in the programme. Moreover, it will help students gain legal access to motorcycles without unnecessary delays.
Thousands of Licences Issued Across Punjab
According to official figures, more than 222,000 motorcycle driving licences were issued during the past eight days. Meanwhile, authorities issued over 6,500 juvenile driving permits during the current month.
Waqas Nazir also instructed licensing centres to provide the best possible services to students. Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of safe-driving education and practical training.
Officials said responsible driving habits are essential for young riders. Consequently, training programmes will focus on improving road safety awareness and rider confidence. The initiative supports the broader goal of promoting safe and sustainable transportation among students across Punjab.
