The Punjab government has announced a major initiative to strengthen sports activities in schools by increasing annual funding and introducing free sports kits for educational institutions. The plan will take effect from the next fiscal year and aims to encourage greater student participation in organized sports.
According to education officials, the initiative is designed to improve sports facilities while creating more opportunities for students to engage in healthy physical activities.
Sports Fund Increased to Rs15 Million
Punjab has decided to increase the annual sports fund from Rs10 million to Rs15 million.
The additional funding will support sports activities in schools affiliated with educational boards across the province. Moreover, officials believe the increased allocation will help expand sporting opportunities for students.
The move reflects the government’s efforts to strengthen sports development within the education sector.
Free Sports Kits for 1,000 Schools
As part of the new initiative, 1,000 schools in the Lahore Division will receive free sports kits during the next fiscal year.
The selected institutions will include 500 boys’ schools and 500 girls’ schools affiliated with the Lahore Board.
Furthermore, education authorities have instructed all nine educational boards in Punjab to ensure the distribution of sports kits among their affiliated schools.
Officials have also been directed to take practical measures to make sporting activities more active and accessible for students throughout the province.
Equipment for Multiple Sports
The sports kits will include equipment for several popular games.
Students will receive items for cricket, football, hockey, basketball, table tennis, and other sports.
As a result, schools will have better resources to organize competitions and encourage regular participation in physical activities.
Promoting a Stronger Sports Culture
The initiative aims to build a stronger sports culture in Punjab’s schools.
In addition, officials hope the program will motivate more students to participate in healthy recreational activities alongside their academic studies.
By increasing funding and providing sports equipment, the government seeks to improve access to organized sports while supporting the physical development of students across affiliated educational institutions.
