Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will begin its planned march towards Islamabad from southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 4, party information secretary Shaukat Yousafzai said on Friday.
According to Yousafzai, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will lead the procession from the province’s southern districts, while PTI provincial president and MNA Junaid Akbar Khan will lead the march from Malakand Division.
He said separate processions from southern KP, Peshawar, Malakand and Hazara would converge in Swabi before moving towards Islamabad. Yousafzai added that preparations for the protest had been completed and a shortage of resources would not affect the planned march.
He reiterated that the October 4 protest would proceed and said Islamabad remained its final destination.
The PTI leader also linked the party’s demands to ongoing government-opposition negotiations. He said the party was seeking access to incarcerated founder Imran Khan, his transfer to a hospital and early hearings of his cases.
Yousafzai described the negotiations as encouraging, saying both sides had presented their positions during Friday’s talks.
Meanwhile, he said suggestions to impose governor’s rule in KP would not resolve the province’s problems and could further complicate the situation.
The PTI had initially planned the march for September 27 but postponed it until October 4 following a political committee meeting.
