The investigation into the murder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdullah Tahir has been transferred to the Crime Control Department (CCD). Meanwhile, Lahore Police have arrested six suspects as the probe expands into allegations of drone surveillance before the attack.
Police launched the investigation after reviewing reports of drone activity near the victim’s residence. Consequently, investigators detained six individuals on suspicion of facilitating the crime.
However, the alleged principal shooters remain at large. Therefore, police continue conducting raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest the remaining suspects.
Police Probe Drone Surveillance Claims
According to investigation sources, the attackers allegedly used a rented vehicle fitted with fake registration plates. After the attack, they reportedly replaced the fake plates with the vehicle’s original registration before escaping.
Police said the vehicle had been rented in Gujranwala. Furthermore, investigators are examining claims that a significant amount of money was spent to obtain drone surveillance equipment used in planning the attack.
Sources also identified Arslan Jatt as the suspected main shooter. Investigators believe he transported the gunmen from Gujranwala to Lahore before the incident.
CCD Takes Over High-Profile Investigation
Officials confirmed that the Crime Control Department will now lead the investigation. DSP Hasnain Haider of the CCD Model Town unit has been assigned to supervise the inquiry.
Previously, the investigation was handled by the investigation wing of Ghalib Market Police Station. However, authorities transferred the case after investigators reportedly identified the suspected shooters.
Police sources also identified Zaman, also known as Gogi Butt, as the alleged mastermind. They claimed he is currently residing abroad.
Consequently, the CCD plans to seek an international red notice to facilitate his arrest through the relevant legal process. Meanwhile, investigators continue gathering evidence and pursuing the remaining suspects to complete the high-profile murder investigation.
