ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Petroleum Limited has announced a gas discovery from its Dolphin X-1 exploration well in Sujawal district, Sindh.
PPL operates the Sirani Exploration License with a 75% working interest, while Government Holdings Private Limited holds the remaining 25%.
The company spudded Dolphin X-1 on April 17, 2026, and drilled the well to a measured depth of 3,850 meters.
The exploration well targeted the hydrocarbon potential of the Chiltan Formation, where drilling results and open-hole logs identified hydrocarbon-bearing intervals.
During post-acid testing, the formation produced good-quality gas at approximately 0.942 million standard cubic feet per day.
The flow occurred against a wellhead flowing pressure of 211 pounds per square inch gauge using a 32/64-inch choke.
Meanwhile, pre-acid testing initially produced condensate at 94 barrels per day before the rate declined to 46 barrels within 24 hours.
However, subsequent post-acid testing did not produce condensate.
PPL said the initial condensate presence provides encouraging evidence of further hydrocarbon potential within the Chiltan Formation.
Moreover, the discovery confirms the presence of a petroleum system in the area.
The company said the finding opens a new exploration frontier across onshore marshy areas and potential shallow offshore extensions.
Therefore, PPL plans further evaluation to assess the broader hydrocarbon potential of the newly identified exploration frontier.
