A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, October 25, 2026, triggering panic among residents. Strong tremors forced many people to leave their homes and seek safety outdoors.
According to reports, the earthquake affected several major cities and districts across the province.
Earthquake Tremors Felt in Peshawar, Swabi and Mardan
Residents reported shaking in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Mohmand, Buner, and Malakand.
Tremors were also experienced in Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Dera Ismail Khan, South Waziristan, and Landi Kotal.
In Swabi, frightened residents rushed outside their homes and gathered in open spaces.
The sudden earthquake caused widespread concern, particularly in areas where tremors were strongly felt.
Earthquake Epicentre Located Near Hindu Kush Region
According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake measured 5.1 on the Richter scale.
However, some local meteorological departments reported its magnitude as high as 5.3.
The earthquake’s epicentre was located near the Garm Chashma area of Tajikistan, close to the Hindu Kush mountain region.
Seismic authorities recorded the earthquake at an estimated depth of 180 to 220 kilometres beneath the Earth’s surface.
The considerable depth allowed seismic waves to travel across a wide geographical area.
No Immediate Reports of Casualties or Damage
Fortunately, authorities had received no immediate reports of deaths, injuries, or significant property damage.
However, detailed information about the earthquake’s impact remained unavailable.
Northern Pakistan frequently experiences seismic activity due to its location near major tectonic boundaries.
