The High Court has temporarily prohibited FIA from taking any actions against Shandana Gulzar, a member of PTI

Justice Ali seeks comprehensive details about the alleged transgressions attributed to the MNA.

The Peshawar High Court has inhibited the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from executing any actions against Sunni Ittehad Council leader and Member of the National Assembly, Shandana Gulzar. This ruling is in reaction to a case involving accusations of Gulzar’s campaigning against state institutions.

In the court’s proceedings, the additional attorney general contested the jurisdiction of the petition, doubting the authority of FIA Lahore to conduct an investigation against a resident from another province. He highlighted that “the notice was issued to her from Lahore.”

Judge Waqar Ahmed raised the issue of whether the FIA’s jurisdiction was confined to Lahore and not extended to other areas. He inquired about the process of conducting an investigation by FIA Lahore against a resident from a different province. The judge also sought clarification on whether the FIA had only an office in Lahore or other locations.

Justice Syed Arshad Ali sought information on the specific violations committed by the suspect. In response, the Additional Advocate General (AAG) mentioned alleged statements made against national institutions as the possible reason for potential legal action.

Nevertheless, Justice Ali demanded thorough details about these breaches. Both parties were directed to give in-depth explanations, and the court postponed the session until March 25th.

On the 9th of March, the Lahore-based Cyber Crime Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) called Shandana Gulzar for interrogation on the 14th, due to allegations of defaming state bodies and government officials through social media.

The summons is issued concerning accusations towards Gulzar, who is said to have made disparaging comments about government officials and authorities on social media. These allegations involve inciting people to rebel and implicating Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in a scandal involving an audio leak. In this leaked recording, there are reported references to a late PTI worker, Zille Shah.

Gulzar faced accusations originating from PML-N activist Shoaib Mirza, who submitted an application claiming her involvement in defaming government officials and institutions through her actions.
