Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have “failed” in delivering for the country. Addressing an event, Abbasi emphasized that politicians are responsible for the ongoing challenges in the nation. He suggested that resolving these issues would require collaboration among all stakeholders.
Abbasi asserted that running a country with prevailing anarchy was not feasible. He proposed that conducting three consecutive transparent elections could potentially resolve the country’s problems. He stressed that the current situation demands tough decisions to steer the nation out of its difficulties.
Moreover, he stated that the present moment offers a final opportunity to rescue the country from its predicament; otherwise, everyone would bear responsibility for the consequences. Abbasi expressed his disappointment that despite the tradition of award distribution on August 14 each year, none of the politicians deserves accolades considering the nation’s hardships.
In a previous statement, Abbasi remarked that Shehbaz Sharif, as the former premier, would need to answer to the entire nation. He labeled the notion of conducting elections based on the old census as “unfair”. He also dismissed the possibility of general elections occurring before February or March.
Abbasi asserted that had the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government not come into power, the country’s situation could have been even worse. Regarding Nawaz Sharif’s potential return to Pakistan, Abbasi stated that it was up to Nawaz Sharif to decide. He urged Nawaz Sharif to return prior to the elections and advised him to surrender before the courts upon arrival.
Abbasi believes that if Nawaz Sharif regains power, the PDM-led government will not get criticism. He also highlighted the importance of political stability for stabilizing the country’s economy.
