Salman Akram Raja Claims 20 PTI Workers Killed in Islamabad Operation

Salman Akram Raja

PTI leader Salman Akram Raja has alleged that at least 20 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters lost their lives during a state-led operation aimed at dispersing a PTI protest in Islamabad.

Raja’s statements have raised significant concerns about the scale of the crackdown and the treatment of the protesters involved.

According to Raja, complete details about the deaths of eight individuals are available, and more information regarding the other fatalities is expected to be released soon.

He claimed that the protesters were targeted by direct gunfire and shelling during the operation.

Raja further accused authorities of obstructing the grieving families’ access to crucial information, alleging that hospitals in Islamabad had been instructed not to release the medical records of the victims to their families.

The incident in question occurred on the night of Tuesday during a PTI protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad.

PTI supporters had gathered in the area, demanding political reforms and the release of their leader, Imran Khan.

In response, security forces initiated a forceful operation that lasted between one to two hours to clear the protesters from the Red Zone.

This area is highly sensitive and heavily guarded, and authorities aimed to ensure the removal of all demonstrators to restore order.

While PTI leadership continues to insist that multiple deaths occurred during the operation, the government has firmly denied these allegations.

Officials have dismissed the claims, stating that no fatalities were reported and asserting that the operation was conducted in accordance with legal protocols and aimed at maintaining public order.

The contrasting narratives have fueled further tensions between PTI supporters and the government, with the opposition party accusing the authorities of using excessive force.

The debate over the events at D-Chowk has sparked widespread outrage among PTI members and human rights organizations, with calls for transparency, accountability, and an independent investigation into the incident.
