Rawalpindi bench of LHC declares arrest of Shirin Mazari illegal, orders her release

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court declared the arrest of Shirin Mazari, a senior PTI leader, illegal and ordered her immediate release.

The bench gave the order on Monday while hearing Dr. Mazari’s plea against her detention by the Punjab police.

The court said that if Dr. Mazari was not nominated in any other case, she must not be arrested again. The LHC Rawalpindi bench nullified her detention under Section 3 of the MPO.

The court also directed the PTI leader Shirin Mazari to submit an undertaking before the deputy commissioner wherein she will not repeat her actions which are against the law.

Imaan Mazari, daughter of Shirin Mazari and a famous human rights lawyer challenged the arrest of her mother before the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday.

In the petition, Imaan Mazari said that police have arrested her mother in violation of the Islamabad High Court order. She urged the court to declare Shireen Mazari’s arrest illegal and set her free.

IHC orders the release of Shirin Mazari, other PTI leaders

Last week Islamabad High Court ordered the release of two female PTI leaders _ Shirin Mazari and Senator Falak Naz.

Police arrested both female PTI leaders under the Maintenance of Public Order a week ago. The court, however, suspended the arrests of both PTI women leaders under the MPO-3.

Shirin Mazari is the former federal minister for human rights and Falak Naz is a PTI Senator. The court observed that the police did not submit adequate records in the court to validate the arrests of Shirin Mazari and Senator Falak Naz.

Punjab police, nonetheless, arrested Shirin Mazari once again after her release from Adiala Jail on the order of the Islamabad High Court.
