PTI summons crucial meeting to form alliances with other parties

ISLAMABAD: After a significant number of independent candidates affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured victories in the 2024 general elections, the former ruling party has called for a meeting to explore potential alliances with other political entities.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, along with Asad Qaiser, Ali Muhammad Khan, and other party members, are scheduled to attend the meeting to deliberate on the formation of new central and provincial governments, as announced by the PTI.

On Friday, the PTI asserted that it is poised to establish a government at the center and dismissed the possibility of forming a coalition with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) or the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“We have not initiated any discussions with PPP or PML-N,” Barrister Gohar said.

He confidently stated that the PTI is on track to secure more than 100 seats in the National Assembly, thereby achieving the requisite number to lead the government at the center.

“We have no intentions of forming a coalition government with PPP and PML-N,” emphasized Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. “We will take charge of the government both at the Centre and in Punjab,” he added.

Barrister Gohar affirmed that the PTI maintains a strong foothold in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is poised to form the government there as well. He assured that independent candidates associated with PTI will adhere to party directives and refrain from joining any other party to avoid concerns about unethical political dealings.

Conversely, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have reached a consensus to establish a coalition government at the center and in Punjab following a meeting between PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, and former president Asif Ali Zardari.

Shehbaz Sharif met with top PPP leaders at the residence of Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Sources disclosed that Shehbaz discussed future government formation with Zardari and conveyed PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s message.

During the meeting, Shehbaz proposed collaboration between the two parties for the political and economic stability of Pakistan.

Sources revealed that Zardari and Shehbaz reached an agreement to form governments in Punjab and at the center, with both parties set to present their perspectives in subsequent meetings to finalize matters regarding power-sharing arrangements through mutual consultation.
