PTI Refuses Hammad Azhar’s Resignation, Urges Him to Continue Duties Amid Legal Challenges

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected Hammad Azhar’s resignation from the positions of General Secretary and Acting President of the party’s Punjab chapter. The party has urged him to continue performing his duties despite several legal challenges and obstacles that hinder him from fulfilling his responsibilities. Hammad Azhar submitted his resignation on Wednesday citing these issues.

PTI leader Barrister Gohar Khan disclosed that he had presented the matter to party founder Imran Khan for deliberation. He asserted that he was refraining from accepting Azhar’s resignation based on special instructions from Imran.

PTI's Azhar resigns from party positions

“I urge Hammad Azhar to continue executing his organizational obligations with unwavering diligence, enthusiasm, and commitment, as he has done from day one. He enjoys the full confidence of our founder chairman Imran Khan, myself, and the entire party,” Barrister Gohar stated.

He commended Azhar as a dedicated party member who had discharged his organizational duties with remarkable perseverance and valor amidst the PTI’s enduring challenges.

Barrister Gohar emphasized the party’s deep appreciation for the invaluable sacrifices made by its leaders and workers in upholding the principles of Imran Khan and advocating for the rule of law and national freedom in Pakistan.

Responding to the gesture, Azhar expressed his gratitude for Imran’s trust and acknowledged the weighty responsibility he bears amid the prevailing circumstances. He pledged to uphold Imran’s confidence in him and reiterated his commitment to serving the party diligently.

Earlier in the week, Azhar claimed that the returning officer for PP-147 (Lahore), Nabeel Ahmad Memon, had not received his nomination papers. Azhar stated his intention to contest the by-election for PP-147, which became vacant after Hamza Shehbaz’s victory in the National Assembly election.

Azhar’s nomination papers for the NA-129 contest in the general elections were previously rejected, and he faces numerous legal challenges, including being declared a proclaimed offender in several cases related to riots and facing corruption charges pending with the Anti-Corruption Establishment.
