Former Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Parvez Elahi announced his joining of the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday, along with ten of his party’s former MPAs, as the political temperature rises in the country ahead of general elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
Elahi joined PTI soon after Shujaat Hussain removed him as the party’s president of Punjab and also revoked his basic membership.
Imran Khan and Elahi have a close relationship since the previous chief minister promised to support the PTI leader and make sure that they would continue to rule in Punjab, the hub of the nation’s politics.
Parvez Elahi and other leaders have decided to join PTI, confirmed Fawad Chaudhry, PTI Senior Vice President, in a press conference in Lahore. The decision came after Elahi’s meeting with Khan and lengthy discussions.
Fawad Chaudhry further stated that Elahi and his supporters are welcomed by the entire party as they have begun the journey towards a “new Pakistan.” “Because Parvez Elahi has supported Imran Khan in good times and bad.”
Additionally, Elahi urged Fawad to announce to the media that PTI had selected the ex-PML-Q leader as president, with senior leadership approval.
He had also criticized Fawad earlier this month but eventually withdrew his criticism, saying, “We will move forward over this action in accordance with our party’s constitution.”
Afterward, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi claims that the PTI chief had promised to make him president for his loyalty during tough times. Furthermore, he supported Imran Khan and proved loyalty through his chief ministership. Elahi had recently lost his position as chief minister after dissolving the assembly.
Moreover, the Former Chief Minister recalls dissolving Punjab Assembly last month at PTI Chief’s request and pledges to prioritize the country’s benefit.
