Reserved Seats
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) is strategically considering an alliance or merger with another political party to secure reserved seats, a move crucial for its aspirations of forming a government in the national and provincial assemblies.
PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan disclosed this decision, emphasizing the party’s reluctance to engage with the PML-N or PPP for potential collaboration. Despite having the highest number of directly elected members, their independent status hinders access to reserved seats for minorities and women.
Having ruled out alliances with major parties, the PTI may explore partnerships with parties like Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) or Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM). The former holds experience as allies in the KP government, while the latter, though previously aligned with PTI, faces uncertainty regarding the submission of candidate lists.
Barrister Gohar Khan criticized politicians who switched loyalties, noting their rejection by voters in the recent elections. While addressing concerns about PTI-backed independents possibly joining other parties, he assured that most independents remain aligned with PTI.
The party founder, Imran Khan, has instructed efforts to form governments in the Centre, KP, and Punjab, signaling a commitment to active participation in parliamentary proceedings. Barrister Gohar also stressed that the release of political prisoners and recognition of PTI’s mandate are crucial for national healing, responding to the Army Chief’s call for stability and reconciliation.
Amid ongoing protests against alleged rigging, PTI demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) members, accusing them of facilitating fraud.
The party asserts that the election results were manipulated to diminish PTI’s majority and impose what they term as “PDM-2” on the nation. The spokesperson called for the CEC and ECP members to step down, alleging their failure in upholding constitutional and legal duties.
