PTI chairman
ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been named as a suspect in the First Information Reports (FIRs) filed regarding the May 9 riots and the attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the military.
The FIRs were lodged at the RA Bazar and New Town police stations, linking the former prime minister to the cases of the May 9 riots, damage to state properties, and the GHQ assault.
The RA Bazar police station specifically registered the case concerning the attack on the GHQ, with PTI leader Raja Basharat and 14 others already implicated in the incident.
Previously, in June, the investigators had identified 41 individuals from the United Kingdom (UK), United States (US), and Canada who played direct roles in instigating and facilitating the May 9 riots.
The majority of these suspects were associated with a particular political party, including its office-bearers and members.
The suspects were identified through photographs and videos showing them chanting anti-Pakistan slogans and encouraging people to engage in activities against the state.
Involvement of overseas PTI men in riots
Meanwhile, among the identified suspects, three held positions within a political party in the UK, while 12 resided in London and were frequently observed near Avenfield House. In Canada, eight office-bearers of the political party, who also acted as its supporters and financiers, were among the suspects.
Notably, an office-bearer in Ottawa was discovered to have been involved in planning to throw shoes at government ministers during their visits to the US and Canada.
In the United States, one of the six identified suspects was an office-bearer of the political party’s New York chapter, while the remaining five individuals were activists.
Earlier, former prime minister Imran Khan has expressed the fear of his arrest within two weeks. He has informed his party loyalists about this possible development and line of action of the PTI after his arrest.
