Ad-Hoc Judge Appointments
Today, on July 18, a joint parliamentary party meeting was convened by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Alliance Council (SIC).
During this meeting, PTI leader Barrister Gohar Khan announced the party’s intention to approach the Supreme Judicial Council regarding the appointment of ad-hoc judges to the Supreme Court.
He criticized the appointment of four ad-hoc judges for a 3-year term during the court’s vacation period, alleging it was done with malicious intent.
Opposition Leader Omar Ayub stated that their allied party members had staged a symbolic march demanding the release of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
They condemned what they termed as fabricated cases against them, including a false case against Bushra Bibi from which she was acquitted. Ayub criticized the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for these actions.
PTI leader Shibli Faraz emphasized that PTI represents 70% of the country’s population and warned that any attempt to ban PTI would spell the end of the government.
He reaffirmed PTI’s commitment as a patriotic party and criticized the government’s response to recent Supreme Court decisions, claiming they are now in a state of panic.
Faraz asserted that the ruling clique is running out of options and predicted the government’s downfall within 18 months.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding reserved seats and discussed key points with parliamentary members.
PTI has prepared a list of 91 National Assembly members, which may be submitted to the Election Commission soon.
Notably absent from the list are Sahibzada Hamed Raza and Faisal Amin Gandapur, who submitted tickets under the Sunni Alliance Council’s banner. The PTI list includes 39 PTI members and 41 independent members.
The parliamentary parties of PTI and SIC met at Parliament House, attended by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Umar Ayub Khan, Shehbaz Sharif, SIC chief Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Sheikh Waqas Akram.
Other attendees included Ali Muhammad Khan, Atif Khan, Shandana Gulzar, Owais Noorani, Mohsin Aziz, Faisal Saleem, and Humayun Mehman.
Discussions encompassed the Supreme Court’s decisions on reserved seats, arrests of PTI leaders and workers, and ongoing court cases.
Following the meeting, PTI leaders briefed the media and reiterated their stance on ad-hoc judges influencing the Supreme Court’s decisions.
Barrister Gohar Khan emphasized PTI’s resilience against any government attempts to ban them, asserting the power of the people.
