President Alvi, Ishaq Dar discuss political, economic situation amid PTI’s threat to dissolve assemblies

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar today met with President Dr Arif Alvi and discussed the prevailing political and economic situation in the wake of PTI’s threat to dissolve Punjab and KP assemblies.

This is the third meeting between the President of Pakistan and Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar over the prevailing political and economic crises in the country.

PTI chairman Imran Khan has threatened to dissolve Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies in December in case the coalition government did not announce early elections plan.

Both the leaders held meeting for 20 minutes and discussed important issues such as PTI’s demand for snap elections, IMF programme, and prevailing critical political and economic situation. They also discussed the viewpoint of PDM/coalition government in the prevailing circumstances.

Finance Minister sought President’s help to further reduce the import bill with the cooperation of the Punjab and KP governments. Dar also requested Dr. Arif Alvi to influence Punjab and KP governments to ensure the enforcement of the IMF programme.

According to sources, the President of Pakistan has promised Ishaq Dar to take up issues of national interest with the PTI top leaders, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments.

Both the leaders also discussed the closure of markets by 6 pm to avoid gas and electricity load shedding this winter.
