Four Seats
In the recent Senate elections held on Thursday, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerged victorious, securing four seats.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) each clinched one seat, as per the declared results following the conclusion of voting.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) organized bye-elections to fill six vacant Senate seats after several Senators resigned upon winning seats in the national and provincial assemblies.
Members of the National Assembly participated in the election of one Senate seat, while Sindh Assembly members cast their votes to elect two Senators, and Balochistan Assembly members elected three Senators.
Notably, members of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQMP) boycotted the vote.
Yousaf Raza Gilani secured a resounding victory in the Islamabad Senate seat race, amassing 204 votes, while his opponent from the Strengthening of Islamic Coalition (SIC), Ilyas Mahirban, could only manage 88 votes.
From Sindh, PPP candidates Aslam Abro and Saifullah Dharejo emerged victorious with 57 and 58 votes, respectively, leaving their SIC counterparts, Nazirullah and Shazia Sohail, with a mere four votes each.
In Balochistan, PPP’s Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo secured a Senate seat, alongside PMLN’s Mir Dostain Khan Domki and JUIF’s Abdul Shakoor.
Polling took place from 9 am to 4 pm to determine the outcomes.
These seats became vacant following the resignations of prominent figures such as Yousaf Raza Gilani, Sarfaraz Bugti, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Nisar Khoro, Jam Mehtab, and Prince Ahmad Omar.
