PPP Unveils Appointments for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governors

Following meticulous consideration, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has announced the party’s nominees for the pivotal positions of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governorships, appointing Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Faisal Karim Kundi respectively.

Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, a staunch PPP loyalist hailing from Punjab’s Attock district, brings a wealth of experience as a former federal minister and aide to the prime minister for overseas Pakistanis during the previous tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. Additionally, he holds the presidency in the Bilawal-led party’s Rawalpindi division.

Confirming his nomination for the Punjab governorship in a conversation during an interview, Saleem shared that he received the news directly from Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, expressing anticipation for the swift issuance of the official notification of his appointment.

Saleem is poised to succeed the incumbent Governor Baligh Ur Rehman, a senior figure within the ruling PML-N, who assumed office following the ousting of the former prime minister Imran Khan-led government in May 2022.

Earlier reports indicated that PPP had shortlisted Qamar Zaman Kaira, Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, and Chaudhry Riaz for the post.

Simultaneously, the PPP announced Faisal Karim Kundi as its nominee for the KP governorship. Kundi, presently serving as PPP’s central information secretary, is anticipated to assume office imminently, according to sources.

Kundi’s political journey includes serving as the country’s youngest deputy speaker after being elected as a member of the National Assembly in the 2008 general elections. He has garnered recognition domestically and internationally for his contributions to global dialogues, diplomatic engagements, and advocacy for infrastructure development and educational reforms.

The power-sharing agreement between the ruling parties, PML-N and PPP, entails the latter supporting the former in government formation at the Centre, with the PPP securing various constitutional posts including Punjab and KP governors, the presidency, and the National Assembly’s deputy speakership.
