PPP Takes Lead in Public Gatherings as Election Campaign Concludes

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) brought the 54-day election campaign to a close on Tuesday, marking the end of canvassing efforts for the upcoming general elections on February 8. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerged at the forefront, leading public gatherings across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.

As the political landscape experienced dynamic engagement from various parties, Balochistan, unfortunately, saw neglect from national-level campaigns, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a candidate for NA-265 from District Pishin in Balochistan.

In anticipation of polling day, PPP leaders Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari actively conducted rallies and public engagements, energizing their supporters nationwide. The Election Commission of Pakistan reported that a total of 5,121 candidates are vying for National Assembly seats, comprising 4,807 males, 312 females, and two transgender candidates. Meanwhile, for the provincial assemblies of Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Balochistan, 12,695 candidates are contesting, with 12,123 males and 570 females.

The country boasts a total of 128,585,760 registered voters. Punjab holds the highest number with 73,207,896 registered voters, followed by Sindh with 26,994,769. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ranks third with 21,928,119 voters, while Balochistan has 5,371,947 registered voters. Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, has 1,083,029 voters. As the nation prepares for the upcoming elections, attention turns towards the significant task ahead, with millions of male and female voters poised to exercise their democratic rights.
