ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), addressed the outcome of the 2024 Elections, asserting that PML-N had emerged as the largest party at the national level.
In a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif remarked, “Contrary to deliberate misperceptions propagated by certain media quarters last night, PML-N, Alhamdulillah, has emerged as the largest party both nationally and in Punjab.”
She added, “While we await some results, MNS [Mian Nawaz Sharif] will address PML-N’s headquarters for a victory speech as soon as the final results are received. Insha’Allah. Stay tuned.”
Maryam Nawaz’s post came amidst social media criticism questioning PML-N’s silence as initial results showed independent candidates leading in National Assembly seats, contrary to expectations of a PML-N victory.
Ishaq Dar, former federal finance minister and PML-N leader, revealed that independent candidates have reached out to the party.
He reiterated PML-N’s dominance in National Assembly seats from Punjab, affirming their consistent lead as election results unfolded.
During media interactions, Dar emphasized PML-N’s lead in the election results and acknowledged delays in result announcements, attributing them to the shutdown of mobile phone networks the previous day.
Reports suggested that supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan had the advantage in the election results from over 100 seats, with independents, largely loyal to Khan, securing victories in 47 of 106 seats with announced results out of a total of 265 contested seats in Thursday’s elections.
Earlier, The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) announced that its leader, Nawaz Sharif, will deliver a victory speech upon receiving the final results of the 2024 general elections.
The party claimed to be in contact with independent candidates, many of whom are supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Maryam Nawaz, PML-N Chief Organiser, posted on X, formerly Twitter, stating, “Contrary to the false narrative pushed by certain media outlets last night, PML-N, Alhamdulillah, is emerging as the largest party both at the national level and in Punjab.”
Meanwhile, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar mentioned that victorious independent candidates in the 2024 general elections have been in contact with the party.
Dar stated, “The independents have reached out to us and they will affiliate with a party within the next 72 hours as per the Constitution.”
He emphasized that the PML-N cannot compel anyone to join but noted that candidates willing to join have been contacting them.
