PM Imran Khan asserted to federal ministers on Thursday that they must prioritise the national interest and come up with “out of the box ideas” to get work done effectively and productively.
An awards ceremony took place for the country’s top ten most successful departments, ministries, and divisions.
Ministries received certificates in the following order: Communications Ministry, Planning and Development Ministry, Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division, Federal Education and Professional Training Ministry, Ministry of Human Rights, Industries and Production, National Security Division, Commerce Ministry and National Food Sec. The Ministry of Communications performed best.
Prior to the signing of the performance agreements, the Prime Minister’s Office and federal departments and divisions agreed to meet their separate goals, keeping with the premier’s vision of good government.
PM Imran Khan stated it is impossible for a society to work without the notion of reward and punishment. To him, it brought back memories of a day in school when he had the lowest grades in the class and how much he cared about his grades when they were publicly revealed.
He stated that “this is a great chance to push ministries to enhance their performance for the benefit of people,” to resolve public concerns through effective policymaking and good governance.
PM Imran Khan also assured that the advancement of the ordinary man is the goal of any governance system. This government’s governance system would improve as all departments are publicly praised and their performances are revealed in front of all federal ministers and the public throughout the remaining term of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The prime minister emphasised the need of expanding exports, substituting imported goods, and reducing poverty as areas of national concern. PM Imran Khan instructed Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Establishment Mohammad Shehzad Arbab to evaluate the quality of performance of the ministries by allocating a weightage to ministries that maintained the country’s interest ahead.
Speaking about bureaucracy’s paralysis, he mentioned the National Accountability Bureau’s influence. The prime minister said that changes had been made to the NAB’s authority, allowing the officials to take the initiative in solving problems.
After becoming Prime Minister, he talked about his plans to implement “revolutionary ideas to bring fast change” in the country. However, he concluded that the country’s structure could not withstand unexpected changes and that it could only be achieved through a system of reward and punishment.
PM emphasised the significance of quarterly reviews of ministries’ performance to instil a sense of competition among them to do their best.
Mr Saeed, the country’s youngest cabinet member, was congratulated on being the best and praised for the work he had done in his department.
Ministers had set at least 1,090 goals, of which 424 will be accomplished this year, according to the PM. He said that 207 of the goals were connected to governance and 100 were related to infrastructure.
