Pervez Khattak is reportedly seeking support to become a member of the PPP party

In Nowshera, after experiencing a disappointing outcome for his newly established political party during the general elections, former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervez Khattak, has been attempting to join the Pakistan Peoples Party.

He has recently held discussions with the local Nowshera chapter of the PPP to explore this possibility, as reported on Tuesday.

Reliable sources have disclosed to the publication that Khattak is contemplating joining the PPP, even though he decided to leave politics following his significant loss in the February 8th election.

In the recent elections, the previous Chief Minister of KP, along with his two sons and a son-in-law, experienced defeat. Consequently, their political party managed to obtain only two seats in the provincial assembly.

Following his loss, Khattak retreated from political activity and disconnected communication with his team and followers.

Nevertheless, the ex-defence minister has been more engaged and even connected with his supporters during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

Khattak sought to join the PPP’s upper echelon, engaging with prominent figures such as Raja Pervez Ashraf and Syed Khursheed Shah, among others. Nevertheless, he was informed that his membership would be contingent upon the approval of the party’s local chapter.

Ilyas Khan, a prominent PPP member in Nowshera, verified that Shah had indeed reached out to the party’s Nowshera general secretary, Saeedullah, for discussing Khattak’s proposal to join the PPP.

Khan further stated that Shah advised Saeedullah to organize a gathering of the PPP’s Nowshera executive members with the ex-defense minister. If the attendees express their consent, the leadership will then consider incorporating Khattak into the party’s membership.

Following this, Khattak has been actively engaging with the PPP’s Nowshera chapter in an effort to gain their support. This information was also verified by Ilyas, who mentioned that Khattak organized an iftar dinner for the PPP’s Nowshera leadership in Islamabad.

The report states that individuals within Bilawal’s party requested additional time from Khattak, allowing them to consult with the widow of the late PPP leader from Nowshera, Liaqat Shabab. This conversation was important due to the past differences between Khattak and the deceased leader.

Regarding the query about Khattak potentially becoming the KP governor if he joins PPP, Ilyas stated that President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would play a significant role in deciding this matter. However, he emphasized that the party has not yet made a final decision on this subject.

Simultaneously, the previous chief minister is working to reconcile with his long-separated brother, who has recently become a member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl, as per family sources who disclosed this information to the newspaper.
