LAHORE: Former Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, expressed his concerns about the treatment of the Sharif family, and his party colleague, Yasmin Rashid, challenged Nawaz Sharif to contest elections from her constituency in Lahore.
Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, while speaking to the media, expressed his frustration at being rearrested despite obtaining bail in multiple cases. He emphasized his respect for institutions and the judiciary, contrasting this with his perception that the Sharif family has shown contempt for the judiciary and judges.
He highlighted the challenges he has faced despite his respect for the judiciary, suggesting that there has been favoritism towards Nawaz Sharif, resulting in discriminatory justice and the marginalization of one political party. Elahi was brought to the district court by anti-corruption police for an extension to his physical remand in cases related to illegal recruitment in the Punjab assembly.
Meanwhile, PTI’s former provincial minister, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, challenged Nawaz Sharif to contest elections against her while attending proceedings at the anti-terrorism court (ATC) related to the May 9 riots case.
She accused Nawaz of being a ‘convict’ and claimed that PTI leaders are facing pressure to leave politics while Nawaz is receiving special treatment and protocol. She also alleged that the Sharif family is receiving all possible assistance.
Ministry of Interior Initiates Red Warrant Request for Zulfi Bukhari with Interpol
Another significant development has occurred as the Ministry of Interior has granted approval for the issuance of a red warrant for Zulfi Bukhari, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former federal minister for overseas Pakistanis.
This decision marks a new chapter in the ongoing legal proceedings against Zulfi Bukhari, who has been residing abroad.
The Ministry of Interior instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to formally request the Interpol Secretariat in France for the issuance of a red warrant for Zulfi Bukhari.
This action is part of a concerted effort to apprehend and extradite him to Pakistan in connection with his alleged involvement in a case registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Golra police station on March 18.
The case against Zulfi Bukhari originates from his participation in the PTI’s “Jail Bharo Tehreek,” which began on February 22. He was the first to voluntarily surrender as part of the party’s protest, but later left the country.
During the campaign, 47 PTI workers and leaders who surrendered to the police were initially taken to Adiala jail and later transferred to Shahpur jail in Sargodha.
Rana Sanaullah, a former interior minister and a prominent figure in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), alleged that Zulfi Bukhari and two other PTI leaders left the country as part of a conspiracy. In response, Bukhari vehemently denied these claims and criticized Sanaullah’s accusations.
Bukhari stated, “I’m providing my departure details and information about the airport. I left for business and was scheduled to return on May 6. It doesn’t take this much effort and airtime to figure it out,” in response to Sanaullah’s comments made during a TV show. He found it amusing that the former minister was attempting to portray his departure as a major conspiracy.
