Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Claims Sharif Family Fears ‘Prisoner Number 804’

QUETTA: The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, made headlines by referring to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan as prisoner number 804, claiming that the Sharif family was “afraid” of him. Speaking to the media, Ayub asserted that PTI is fostering public awareness and predicted that his party would assume power once the current governments are dissolved.

He emphasized PTI’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and the constitution, stating that contemporary Pakistan is witnessing an awakened populace, as evidenced by the success of PTI rallies despite obstacles.

Ayub also highlighted incidents of alleged mistreatment of PTI workers and restrictions on displaying party flags during public gatherings in Pishin and Chaman. He announced plans for rallies nationwide, as part of an alliance of opposition parties.

Earlier on April 12, Ayub had declared the formation of a “grand opposition alliance” to protest against alleged electoral rigging and advocate for the restoration of constitutional democracy, with the movement commencing from Balochistan.

During the protest rally in Pishin, Ayub stressed the importance of utilizing Balochistan’s resources for the benefit of its residents and asserted that the resources of any province should prioritize its people.

Meanwhile, in a surprising turn of events, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharif Khilji announced his decision to defect to PTI, citing disillusionment with PPP’s leadership and declaring his intent to join PTI without seeking personal gain.

The opposition’s collective action, including parties like PTI, Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP), Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), underscores a unified effort to challenge the government and advocate for political change.
