ISLAMABAD: Marking the 29th anniversary of its founding, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held a commemorative event at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, where party leaders demanded the immediate release of PTI founder Imran Khan and other incarcerated party members.
A resolution passed during the event reaffirmed the party’s commitment to constitutional supremacy, rule of law, and the protection of fundamental rights. It also condemned recent Indian actions and accusations, expressing firm support for Pakistan’s armed forces and vowing to stand united in the face of external threats.
Quoting former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the resolution declared that any aggression against Pakistan would be met with a strong and unified response from the entire nation.
The party criticized what it called the “illegal” detention of political leaders including Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and described the alleged rigging of the February 8 elections as a betrayal of the people’s mandate and a violation of the Constitution.
Calling for the restoration of civil liberties and press freedom, the resolution also condemned the 26th Constitutional Amendment, claiming it had undermined judicial independence.
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan dedicated the occasion to PTI’s political prisoners and those who lost their lives on May 9 and November 26. He said the party’s ongoing struggle is rooted in a vision for a democratic Pakistan built on justice and constitutional order.
He also criticized the Indian government for suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and escalating tensions, asserting that only Imran Khan has the ability to unite the country in such critical times.
Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser emphasized that PTI represents a long-standing movement for democratic accountability and called for a judicial system the public can trust.
Earlier in the day, PTI lawmakers and supporters held a symbolic march from the Parliament House to KP House to mark the party’s founding day.
