Omar Ayub
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stalwart Omar Ayub is poised to assume the role of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, as disclosed by sources on Monday.
According to reports, as of 6 pm, Omar Ayub’s nomination was the sole submission received at the National Assembly speaker’s office.
With no other contenders stepping forward within the designated timeframe, Ayub’s candidacy remains unchallenged.
It is anticipated that a formal decision regarding Ayub’s appointment will be announced today at 11 am.
The nomination for Omar Ayub’s opposition leadership has garnered support from 85 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), underscoring a significant display of solidarity.
Last month, the formal endorsement of Omar Ayub Khan’s candidacy for the opposition leader position was initiated by the PTI-Sunni Ittehad Council alliance.
The necessary documentation was submitted to National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s office, signaling a strategic move in parliamentary dynamics.
This development unfolds against the backdrop of approximately 90 Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) associated with PTI forging an alliance with the SIC following the general elections.
Originally contesting as independent candidates, these MNAs consolidated under the SIC umbrella to vie for reserved seats, enhancing their collective influence within the assembly.
The submission of nomination papers was facilitated by Malik Amir Dogar, in the presence of prominent SIC figure Sahibzada Hamid Raza, alongside MNAs Ali Mohammad Khan, Riaz Fatyana, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Jatt, and other notable personalities.
