The alleged killer of Noor Mukadam has accused her father, Shaukat Mukadam, of tampering with the evidence in his daughter’s murder trial and implicating him for murder.
Noor Mukadam had rejected Zahir Jaffer’s marriage proposal when he killed her, as Zahir Jaffer acknowledged in the police custody. While recording his statement under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the defendant backtracked from his confession.
On Monday, the prime suspect in the case presented a written statement to the court. His statement said that: “I want to bring on record that I am innocent in this case and that I along with other co-accused, have been unfairly ensnared in this case in order to spare the real perpetrators”.
“I and Noor Mukadam were dear friends and had been living together with mutual permission for a long time,” he said, according to the sources. He added that neither family objected to the fact, and both families were aware of the other’s situation. “Noor was a regular at our family gatherings and celebrations, and I used to attend her events as a family member, too. After six months of no communication, I received a phone call from Noor on July 18, 2021, asking if I could host a drug party for her and her other friends.” According to him, he and Noor departed his home on July 19, 2021, for their USA flight, but Noor insisted on cancelling their flight.
For a celebration on July 20th, Noor invited her friends to his place in the afternoon. Zahir’s statement said that “All of us, including Noor, were heavily drugged up throughout the course of the discussion, and (the report of forensic histopathology verifies this fact which the prosecution itself relied on, in their evidence). After a few hours, I came to my senses and found myself tied up in the lounge of my home. I screamed for help, and a group of people dressed in police and civilian attire came to my aid”. According to the statement, “I learned that Noor had been murdered by someone among the participants.”
According to the statement, Shaukat Mukadam is a powerful person, and he and Shahbaz Gill conducted a news conference to implicate Zahir.
According to Zahir Jaffer’s statement, “A broad nasty campaign was started against me and my family by bogus social media activists and feminist organisations in order to achieve their malicious goals and make money. Although my court case is still ongoing, trolls on social media and self-described feminists have called for my execution without even giving me the chance to establish my innocence. In Pakistan, as well as overseas, I have been treated for severe drug psychosis. The trial court and prison officials requested my medical exam and board constitution several times, but owing to Shaukat Mukadam and state machinery influence, the prison authorities did not provide health facilities for the undersigned/accused.”
He alleged that the prosecution’s case against him was based on manufactured, altered, or doctored material, all of which he said was illegal. Due to the influence of the complainant, as well as the state’s leniency, he has been implicated in this case to usurp money.
After Zahir Jaffer’s lawyer finished off his remarks, the case was postponed until February 16 for additional proceedings.
