ISLAMABAD: District and sessions court in Islamabad denied all three pleas filed by Zahir Jaffer, the primary suspect in the murder of Noor Mukadam.
Earlier last month, Zahir Jaffer’s lawyer Sikandar Zulqarnain filed three petitions in the court, one of them against the IG Islamabad, who had stated that “firm evidence against Zahir” had been uncovered.
In one petition, the court was asked to direct Police Inspector General Ahsan Younas to handle the matter “lawfully” and to “clarify the solid evidence against Jaffer.”
In the second petition, the complainant Shaukat Mukadam’s phone number was requested to be confirmed.
In the third petition, the lawyer argued for an update of the crime scene map and legal action against the investigating officer (IO) because “the map is incorrect”.
Plaintiff’s attorney Shah Khawar told reporters that the “move has not affected prosecution’s position” when speaking to the media.
The court rejected all the primary suspect’s pleas.
Zahir Jaffer has enough proof to stand trial
Mohammad Ahsan Younus, IG Islamabad, presided over a meeting on the Noor Mukadam murder case on January 25. During the discussion, it was verified that Zahir Jaffer, the primary suspect, had solid evidence against him.
Noor was raped before her death, according to the forensic findings. As she struggled to rescue herself, Zahir’s flesh was found beneath her nails.
There was also a Swiss army knife and knuckle punch at the crime site which was covered with Noor’s blood, according to the police report.
“These are powerful pieces of forensic evidence and the investigation team is committed to seeking justice for Noor Mukadam,” the IG had said.
The Murder
An Islamabad court formally indicted Zahir, the top suspect in the death of Noor Mukadam, in October 2021. Besides Zahir, two members of the family’s staff—Jamil and Jan Mohammad—were also implicated in the case.
On July 20, a 27-year-old woman named Noor Mukadam was brutally killed within the Kohsar police station F-7’s boundaries in Islamabad.
Former Pakistani ambassador Shaukat Ali Mukadam later filed a murder charge at the same police station.
The Islamabad police arrested suspect Zahir on the night of July 20 from his house where, according to Noor’s parents, he killed her with a sharp instrument and severed her head.
