Pakistan’s government has contacted Dr David R Lawrence, the London doctor who has been treating former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
Letter from the Attorney General’s Office in Islamabad to David R Lawrence of 88 Harley St., London WIG 7HR informed him that the government-appointed doctors want to meet with him in London and verify/confirm the health of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s condition.
Nawaz Sharif’s current evaluation, haematology/blood reports, imaging results, and any interventional procedures done so far have to be examined by doctors before they can form an opinion or verify/confirm the health status of Nawaz Sharif and his ability to travel back to Pakistan, according to a letter from the attorney general’s office.
David R Lawrence was requested by the AG’s office to inform and confirm to the Pakistan High Commission in London or the Office of the Attorney-General of Pakistan the day and time, as well as the location, at which the doctor(s) may meet with Nawaz Sharif and check his medical record, etc.
The meeting/examination of medical records may be planned between February 22nd and March 13th, 2022, according to the letter, which also said that the intimation should be sent four days prior to the preferred date set by the doctor. David Lawrence was also advised by the AG’s office that Punjab’s government had established a Special Medical Board (SMB) in a letter dated 14-1-2022.
17-1-2022 was the day when SMB met and studied the materials Dr Lawrence had provided. The Special Medical Board’s assessment was as follows:
His current clinical assessment, blood tests, imaging data, and any interventional procedures that have been performed thus far are not included in the 29-page photocopied paperwork. As a result, the Special Medical Board cannot provide the appropriate authorities with any organised advice or considered opinion about his present physical state and capacity to travel.
An additional three-page document signed by Fayaz Shawl MD, USA, was filed to the court on behalf of the petitioner, the AG’s office informed David Lawrence. Statedly, it was an “evaluation of Nawaz Sharif by Dr Fayaz Shawl and not a medical report.
On February 7th, 2022, a Special Medical Board formed to investigate the paper signed by Dr Fayaz Shawl was able to corroborate this. The following is what the Special Medical Board had to say about this document:
Documents copied and supplied do not give any information on his current physical condition, haematology/blood reports or imaging findings or any interventional procedures that have been carried out.
In light of the available facts, the Special Medical Board cannot provide a logical assessment of his present physical state and capacity to travel.
The AG office wrote that the information provided suggests that Mian Mohammad Nawaz is largely under Dr Lawrence’s care, whereas his medical assessment was written either during or after his travel to London by Fayaz Shawl, MD. Pakistan’s Attorney General has requested Nawaz’s Sharif’s doctor to share his clinical tests, laboratory results and treatments that have been undertaken in the United Kingdom.
