LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) announced that its leader, Nawaz Sharif, will deliver a “victory speech” upon receiving the final results of the 2024 general elections.
The party claimed to be in contact with independent candidates, many of whom are supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Maryam Nawaz, PML-N Chief Organiser, posted on X, formerly Twitter, stating, “Contrary to the false narrative pushed by certain media outlets last night, PML-N, Alhamdulillah, is emerging as the largest party both at the national level and in Punjab.”
She continued, “While we await some results, MNS will head to the PML-N headquarters for the victory speech as soon as the final results arrive. Insha’Allah. Stay tuned.”
Meanwhile, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar mentioned that victorious independent candidates in the 2024 general elections have been in contact with the party.
Dar stated, “The independents have reached out to us and they will affiliate with a party within the next 72 hours as per the Constitution.” He emphasized that the PML-N cannot compel anyone to join but noted that candidates willing to join have been contacting them.
Dar asserted, “If independents choose not to join any political party, they will lose reserved seats. The independents are nowhere near the success PML-N has achieved in Punjab.”
He claimed that the Shehbaz Sharif-led party holds the majority in Punjab and has secured the most National Assembly seats.
“Based on the results available until 3 am, PML-N was leading in terms of seats. Even when the results were trickling in slowly, PML-N maintained its lead,” Dar added.
Regarding Nawaz Sharif’s stance, Dar mentioned that even if PML-N secures a majority, they are open to collaborating with other parties.
“We are optimistic about forming the government at both the federal and provincial levels, and if another party forms the government, we will accept it,” Dar concluded.
