May 9 suspects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa still at large: Report

PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD: The May 9 suspects who belong to KPK have still not been arrested.

According to sources, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have been searching for suspects involved in May 9 violent protests.

About 8,417 suspects are involved in anti-state protests and violence in the province.

According to the KP’s Interior Department report, 214 accused got bail before arrest, 1, 160 obtained bail after arrest, and only 119 are currently in police custody.

About 5,148 accused belong to Lower Dir, 1143 accused in Bannu, 75 from DI Khan, 25 in Abbottabad while police officials are still to identify 1,000 accused in Kohat.

According to the list, 446 accused wanted by the police are from the provincial capital Peshawar.

Imran Khan defends protests in Lahore Cantt, denies PTI’s involvement in violence

Meanwhile, Imran Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), appeared before a joint investigation team (JIT). Khan defended the protests of the PTI supporters within the cantonment areas.

A six-member panel, comprising a DIG, SSP, and four SPs probed Imran Khan for an hour at the DIG Investigation headquarters.

The interrogation focused on his alleges involvement in the attacks on the Corps Commander House (Jinnah House) and other military installations in the city.

The JIT members reportedly assure Imran Khan that they would only ask professional questions. To a question PTIA leader termed the May 9 violence a conspiracy against him and PTI.

The JIT also inquired about why PTI supporters protested within cantonment areas.

 The panel further questioned him about evidence suggesting that he had incited and issued orders to the protesters.

According to sources, the Chairman of the PTI, Imran Khan, rejected the allegation that he had incited the protests and maintained that the protesters had acted independently and voluntarily.

Imran Khan denied any knowledge of the individuals shown in the videos and pictures. JIT members presented pictures and videos to the former prime minister as evidence.
