Karachi Airport Officers Detain PML-N Leader For ‘Attempting To Flee’

PML-N Former Senator Chaudhry Tanvir Khan carried out unlawful constructions on seized lands which caused the loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday seized Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former senator Chaudhry Tanvir Khan from Karachi airport on the complaint of Punjab’s anti-corruption department.

Punjab’s anti-corruption agency has been conducting searches to arrest the PML-N leader after initiating a complaint against him for stealing government lands.

According to the anti-corruption bureau, Tanvir carried out unlawful constructions on seized lands which caused the loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.

According to the reports, the former PML-N senator was put into detention at Jinnah International Airport as he was “trying to flee to Dubai” via a foreign aircraft.

The former lawmaker’s name was also added to the watch list, and a case was lodged against him in Rawalpindi.

The accused will be handed up to Punjab’s anti-corruption agency on Saturday, according to authorities.

In 2020, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and tax department sealed the Walayat Complex, a plaza owned by Tanvir.

The tax department, together with RDA authorities in a coordinated effort, had sealed several plazas and marquees of the Walayat Complex. The wall of Tanveer’s residence was also destroyed during the operation.

Chaudhry Tanveer at the time had claimed the district administration took action on a holiday, with no prior notification, which was an enough confirmation of the fact that it was “political victimisation”.
