ISLAMABAD: In a significant political development, Senator Talha Mahmood, a seasoned leader from the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-F (JUI-F), made an official announcement of his transition to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) during a press conference convened in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Senator Talha Mahmood’s decision to part ways with the JUI-F and align himself with the PPP marks a notable shift in the political landscape. Speaking at the press conference, he cited the urgency of addressing the nation’s pressing crises as the impetus behind his move, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to overcome these challenges.
With an illustrious 18-year-long political career, Senator Talha Mahmood underscored his commitment to public service, highlighting his principled stance of forgoing salary, perks, and privileges during his tenure in office.
The senator revealed that his decision to join the PPP stemmed from extensive discussions with President Asif Ali Zardari, during which he was extended a warm invitation to join the party.
Reflecting on his former party, JUI-F, Senator Talha Mahmood noted its predominant focus on regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan while expressing a perceived lack of significant contributions in Punjab and Sindh.
While clarifying that he did not cite any personal differences with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Senator Talha Mahmood asserted his belief that the PPP currently offers the most favorable political platform.
Furthermore, the senator levied allegations against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing the party of electoral malpractice and asserting that his mandate was unlawfully usurped during the general elections of 2024.
