Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), has announced that his party will boycott the upcoming by-elections and launch protests across multiple cities, starting from April 25.
In a video statement, Fazlur Rehman emphatically stated, “We have resolved not to acknowledge the outcomes of the February 8 elections and unequivocally reject them. We firmly believe that this parliament fails to authentically represent the aspirations of the people, instead favoring the interests of the establishment.”
Joining forces with prominent political parties such as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), JUI-F leveled accusations of electoral rigging against the government, casting doubt on the integrity of the February 8 elections.
Fazlur Rehman stressed the imperative of rallying national support to uphold the right to vote and safeguard electoral fairness. He disclosed ongoing efforts to forge alliances with other political factions to advance shared objectives in this regard.
The leader of JUI-F has announced their strategy which includes a nationwide movement called the Awami Assembly. The movement is scheduled to start on April 25 from Balochistan’s Pishin, followed by events in Karachi on May 2 and Peshawar on May 9. The party is expected to set a date for the final event in Lahore after these arrangements.
Expressing discontent with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Fazlur Rehman lambasted its perceived lack of authority and alleged interference in civil bureaucracy affairs. He drew attention to concerns raised by high courts regarding external meddling and threats.
In addition to boycotting the by-elections scheduled for April 21 to fill the vacant seats resulting from the February 8 general elections, JUI-F underscored its profound distrust in the electoral process, citing apprehensions about fairness and transparency.
