ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the political landscape in Pakistan witnessed a significant development as the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) formally announced its alliance with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in preparation for the upcoming Senate election scheduled for April 2.
The announcement came during a joint press conference held in Islamabad, where leaders from both parties revealed their collaborative strategy and mutual support for each other’s candidates. Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, representing JUI-F, affirmed the party’s endorsement of PPP leader Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani in the forthcoming Senate election.
This collaboration marked a notable shift, considering JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s earlier stance of avoiding direct involvement in parliamentary politics. Previously, in response to Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s declaration, JUI-F had chosen to boycott elections for the prime minister and president of Pakistan.
Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, a prominent PPP leader, shared that in reciprocation, the PPP would extend its support to JUI-F in the Senate election in Balochistan, underscoring the depth of the strategic partnership between the two parties.
Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, another key figure in the PPP, echoed the sentiment by expressing his party’s commitment to endorsing JUI-F in the Senate election, solidifying the cooperative alliance between the two political entities as they navigate the upcoming electoral challenges on the national stage.
