ISLAMABAD: Jahangir Tareen, the Patron In-chief of Istekham-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), has received nomination papers to contest the general elections in 2024.
The papers cover one National Assembly (NA) seat (NA-155-Lodhran-II) and two Punjab Assembly seats (PP-227 Lodhran-IV and PP-228 Lodhran-V).
Ali Tareen, the son of Jahangir Tareen, is expected to represent his father as a candidate for the same constituencies.
Jahangir Tareen is anticipated to submit his nomination papers to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on December 21 or 22.
Reports indicate that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has agreed to support IPP candidates in Lahore, Lodhran, and Sahiwal, including supporting Aleem Khan on an NA seat in Lahore and Nauman Langrial on an NA Sahiwal seat.
The collaboration between PML-N and IPP involves seat adjustments and mutual support in specific constituencies.
ECP Directs Immediate Removal of Ahad Cheema from Federal Cabinet
In another development, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued an order for the immediate removal of Ahad Cheema from the post of advisor in the federal cabinet.
The ECP directed the cabinet division to take prompt action in removing Cheema from office, citing concerns about his potential influence on elections due to his previous service in the cabinet under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Ahad Cheema, a former bureaucrat in Punjab during Shehbaz Sharif’s tenure as chief minister, faced corruption allegations in two separate cases by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) related to the Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme and assets beyond means. He was arrested in 2018 but acquitted in 2023.
The ECP will also consider petitions against other cabinet members, including Fawad Hassan Fawad, on December 21. Another petition has been filed against Tauqeer Shah, another member of the cabinet.
