Imran Khan’s Legal Counsel Claims Conspiracy to Prolong PTI Chief’s Incarceration

RAWALPINDI: Barrister Salman Safdar, the legal representative for PTI Chief Imran Khan, has asserted that concerted efforts are underway to keep Imran Khan incarcerated.

Addressing the media outside Adiala jail on Tuesday, Safdar stated, “One man [Khan] has been charged with all kinds of offenses, including terrorism, National Accountability Bureau cases, and the Cypher case.”

Simultaneously, the accountability court rejected NAB’s request for the physical remand of the PTI chairman in the £190 million case. The hearing took place at Adiala Jail, where the former prime minister is currently held.

Expressing concern, Safdar remarked that it is regrettable that the former prime minister is being tried in a court where serious cases, such as those involving Ajmal Kasab and the Benazir Bhutto assassination, have been conducted.

Safdar highlighted that Imran Khan and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi had ample time to meet their families from 9 am to 5 pm. During this period, Khan had extensive interactions with his wife, three sisters, nephew, and his legal team, who, according to Safdar, were effectively confined along with the PTI chief.

Furthermore, Barrister Safdar revealed that he advised the National Accountability Bureau to handle the arrest of the former prime minister with caution to avoid subsequent embarrassment. “It would be better not to arrest Khan in such a baseless case,” he added.
