IHC granted permission for PTI supporter Sanam Javed to return home

On Monday, the Islamabad High Court granted temporary relief to PTI supporter Sanam Javed by allowing her to return home and restraining the federal capital police from arresting her until Thursday.

Presiding over a single-judge bench, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb instructed Sanam Javed, a PTI supporter, to maintain a peaceful demeanor, warning that failure to do so could result in the revocation of the court’s orders.

During the hearing of a petition filed by Sanam’s father, the judge ordered the Islamabad police to present records of the past year regarding Sanam. When Sanam was brought to court by the police, her lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq asserted that there were no complaints against his client.

Upon the judge’s inquiry about Sanam’s custody, the lawyer clarified that she had been detained outside his office.

Sanam Javed had been re-arrested on Sunday immediately after being released from a separate case. Her husband, Attique Riaz, affirmed their commitment to face all legal proceedings, asserting their adherence to the Constitution.

Earlier in the day, the court directed the police to produce Sanam in court by 5:30 pm and prohibited authorities from removing her from Islamabad. The court also summoned the Islamabad Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Sanam Javed’s lawyer argued in court that her arrest from his office was unlawful, and he referenced a magistrate’s previous order for her release from the case.

In the petition filed by Sanam’s father, he sought her immediate release, claiming her detention was illegal. The petition named the federal government, FIA, Islamabad IGP, among others, as respondents and requested the court to declare her detention or abduction as unlawful while halting any further legal proceedings against her.
