ISLAMABAD: The coalition government has decided in principle to file a petition in the Supreme Court for the hearing of prohibited funding case of PTI in the backdrop of ECP verdict announced on Tuesday.
The government will request the Supreme Court to constitute a full bench to hear the case.
The federal government has also decided to place important PTI leaders on no-fly list of the ECL particularly those who have received prohibited funding.
On Tuesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a show-cause to PTI for receiving prohibited funding, concealing 16 bank accounts while PTI chairman submitted false affidavits pertaining to foreign funding.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting of coalition partners which decided to take the prohibited funding matter to the Supreme Court, Geo TV reported today.
All the allies of the government unanimously agreed to take a strict legal action in light of the ECP’s verdict.
The meeting of the coalition government also discussed the options to place PTI leaders’ names on the ECL to prevent them from leaving the country.
The government has constituted two committees _ a legal committee and a political committee to follow up on the ECP verdict and support the government to take appropriate action.
The legal committee, headed by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, comprises Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, PPP leader Farooq H Naek and JUI-F’s Kamran Murtaza while Federal Minister Khursheed Shah will be the head of the political committee and it will consist of Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and federal ministers Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Naveed Qamar.
Both the committees will submit their initial reports to the coalition partners who are expected to meet on Wednesday (Aug 3) again.
