Former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Reiterates Demand For ‘Early Elections’ in Pakistan

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), renewed his call for early elections on Thursday.

Sheikh Rasheed said in a tweet that the rumours had come to a stop as a result of General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), declaring his impending retirement.

He warned the PDM government that using a bullet instead of a ballot would be bad for the nation.

Rasheed claimed that only fair, free, and transparent elections could bring about political stability in the nation because the government was powerless to prevent people from travelling to Islamabad to demonstrate.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), reaffirmed on Wednesday that he would retire after serving out his second three-year term in two months.

At a luncheon held at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, the Army chief delivered these comments.
