Fawad Choudhry thanks Gilani, other Opposition Senators who silently supported SBP Amendment Bill in Senate

Some Senators belonging to the Opposition parties deliberately stayed away from Senate session, providing an opportunity to the govt to get approved the SBP Bill from the House

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry thanked the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and its Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Yousuf Raza Gillani for silently supporting the approval of the SBP Amendment Bill 2021 in Senate.

Referring to the passage of the SBP bill, Fawad, in a tweet, said that the opposition had been dreaming of tabling no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran in the National Assembly “but it failed even in the [Senate] where it has a majority”.

Fawad Chaudhry was referring to absence of PPP’s Opposition leader Yousuf Raza Gillani and some ANP Senators from the Senate during voting for the SBP Bill which enabled the Senate to pass the bill with one vote’s lead. About 43 Senators supported the bill while 42 opposed it. It means out of 54 Senators of the Opposition parties only 42 were present in the Senator to oppose the bill.

Information Minister termed the approval of the SBP Bill 2021 another victory for the ruling PTI government. “The journey of success will not stop,” he added.

Meanwhile, sharing with media Prime Minister’s day-long visit to Punjab, Fawad said that fissures within the opposition parties and their blunted political strategy have resulted in their another defeat as they it failed to block the passage of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Amendment Bill in the Senate.

Information Minister said that on paper, the opposition boasted of a majority in the upper house, but it was unable to stock approval of the bill.
