In a remarkable and unique event, a father and his two sons are making history as they are set to serve together in a legislative body after winning seats in the general elections. Sardar Iqbal Pervez Gorchani not only secured a victory for himself in the Punjab Assembly elections from Rajanpur’s PP-294 but also witnessed his son Sher Ali Gorchani winning PP-293 and his other son Sher Afgan Gorchani winning from PP-292. All three successful candidates ran on the ticket of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and took their oaths on Friday.
Speaking about this historic achievement, the elder Gorchani expressed immense pride and happiness in being elected alongside his sons. Despite facing tough competition from affluent opponents in their constituency, the Gorchani family emerged victorious. Sardar Iqbal Pervez Gorchani secured 43,648 votes, Sher Ali received 37,784 votes, and Sher Afgan garnered 38,596 votes.
In a separate political development, the Punjab Assembly conducted elections for the speaker and deputy speaker, with Malik Ahmed Khan and Malik Zaheer Ahmed Channer of the PML-N securing victories. Malik Ahmed secured 224 votes, earning the title of the House’s Custodian, while Channer secured 220 votes for the position of deputy speaker.
The assembly session, initially delayed by protests both inside and outside the legislative building, witnessed slogans exchanged between members of the PML-N and the Sunni Ittehad Council. A robust police presence was maintained to ensure law and order during the proceedings.
