Election Commission Orders Re-polling in Key Constituencies Amid Ballot Irregularities

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has made a significant decision to organize re-polling in specific polling stations within one National Assembly (NA) constituency and two provincial assembly constituencies. The scheduled re-polling is set to take place on February 15th, with the final results for these constituencies awaiting declaration once the comprehensive results have been accumulated.

The specified re-polling locations include NA-88 Khushab-II, PS-18 Ghotki-I, and PK-90 Kohat-I, where formal complaints regarding the snatching or wastage of ballot papers were officially lodged. The Election Commission, in its statement, emphasized its commitment to upholding the democratic process and ensuring the integrity of the electoral system.

In NA-88 Khushab-II, the ECP spokesperson disclosed that the commission has directed re-polling in 26 stations due to a troubling incident where a mob set polling materials on fire. This unfortunate occurrence necessitated corrective measures to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process and the citizens’ right to fair representation.

Similarly, re-polling orders have been issued for two stations in PS-18 Ghotki-I and 25 stations in PK-90 Kohat-I. These decisions were prompted by reported incidents where individuals seized and wantonly wasted the polling materials, jeopardizing the credibility of the electoral exercise.

In a parallel development, the electoral watchdog has issued a directive to the regional election commissioner, instructing them to submit a comprehensive probe report within three days of receiving complaints regarding vandalism at a polling station in NA-242 Karachi Keamari-I — Sindh. This proactive step underscores the ECP’s dedication to addressing concerns raised during the electoral process promptly and transparently, reinforcing public trust in the democratic system.

By taking decisive action in response to reported irregularities and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process, the Election Commission of Pakistan seeks to uphold the principles of democracy and foster confidence in the electoral system among the citizens.
