Trapped
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Pervaiz Elahi asserted on Wednesday that Nawaz Sharif found himself trapped in a humiliating situation orchestrated by his own brother, Shehbaz Sharif. During a court hearing in Lahore, Elahi addressed reporters, expressing his belief that Nawaz had not only lost whatever remaining public standing he held but would also spend the rest of his life concealing his face in shame.
Elahi highlighted the public’s rejection of what he referred to as the ‘laadlas’ (favored ones) and emphasized that the PTI had secured a clear majority, indicating widespread public support. However, he added a note of caution, stating that overnight rigging had altered election results, causing the PTI to lose in areas where it initially had a winning edge.
Despite facing various tactics aimed at suppressing the PTI, Elahi commended the resilience of voters who turned out in large numbers. He underscored the party’s commitment to safeguarding its mandate, firmly stating that any government formed without the people’s support would inevitably be unstable.
Elahi’s statements followed the announcement by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) that Shehbaz Sharif, rather than Nawaz Sharif, would be their candidate for the position of Prime Minister.
This shift in leadership within the PMLN adds a new dimension to the political landscape, with Elahi’s comments shedding light on the internal dynamics and power struggles within Pakistan’s political sphere. The evolving narrative suggests a complex interplay of electoral challenges, allegations of rigging, and the determination of political parties to secure and defend their mandates.
