ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released an updated list on Wednesday, featuring 166 registered political parties.
The electoral body also updated the names of new presidents and chairpersons for several parties.
According to the document released by the ECP, the commission has recognized the results of the intra-party presidential elections held by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), officially listing Nawaz Sharif as the party’s new president.
Similarly, the ECP has acknowledged Asif Ali Zardari as the president of the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), while Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has been confirmed as the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The electoral body also recognized the intra-party elections of Jamaat-e-Islami, with Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman Khan now listed as the party’s leader.
However, the document notes that the name of the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has not yet been updated. Mahmood Khan, however, has been named as the chairman of PTI-Parliamentarians.
Asfandyar Wali Khan remains listed as the president of the Awami National Party (ANP), according to the ECP document.
Additionally, the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) has been included in the list of registered political parties.
